What is the MLS?
The MLS (Multiple Listing Service) is a database of the houses for sale in the market area at any given time. While real estate agents/brokers are the only ones allowed to make or update entries in the MLS, much of the information is available to the public through search tools like those offered below.
Benefits of the MLS vs Search Portals (i.e. Zillow, Realtor.com)
The search results from the MLS are updated in real-time by the actual agent involved in the sale of the house. The Portals actually pull their information from the MLS, and while they do eventually get most of the updates, the delay leaves their data days, or sometimes weeks, out of date. In the current market, these delays put buyers at a huge disadvantage.
